Why Porgs Were Created for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”

Though it seems like Porgs were created as a great way to sell toys, similar to Ewoks in Return of the Jedi, Porgs had a very functional role in the latest installment of Star Wars.

According to the films’ creators, they were faced with a challenge when filming on the island where Luke took up residence. That challenge was being able to film the natural environment while respecting the natural wildlife.

The Puffin is a bird native to the island and were vast in numbers. To the point where it was impossible to shoot without them being seen on film. The filmmakers decided the best way to camouflage the Puffins were to create a new animal that would blend in with the natural environment and from this, Porgs were born.

Audiences, regardless of how they felt about the film itself, tend to agree that these fun and adorable creatures were a highlight of the film…and provide a great source of protein for Wookies.

Cars 3 Digital/Blu Ray Review

KA-CHOW! Lightning McQueen is back in the 3rd installment of the Cars franchise simply titled, Cars 3.

Disney and Pixar bring back all of your favorite characters from the past Cars films and introduces us to some new blood…er, oil…in the form of Cruz Ramirez, who is voiced by Cristela Alonzo.

Starting today, Lightning and friends are racing into your home through Ultra High Def digital download!

Bring home this Summer’s hottest family film and gain access to a ton of amazing features and bonus content that was previously unreleased.

So far my personal favorite piece of extra content is the Cars To Die(cast) For piece which explores just how many die cast cars have been produced for the Cars franchise including over 100 variations of Lightning McQueen alone!

Let’s be honest, if you’re a fan of Cars, either you were a lover of die cast cars growing up or are still a lover of toy cars. This segment taps into a certain nostalgia for me that I know the kids, and the kids at heart, will love.

Of course the digital version and Blu Ray version will also include the Pixar short, Lou, which premiered ahead of the theatrical release as well as 5 deleted scenes which never made the final cut of the film.

If that’s not enough for you, check out the World’s Fastest Billboard clip below along with the full list of all features included on the digital and Blu Ray version of Cars 3 which is available now!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Digital/Blu Ray Review

The Guardians are back and better than ever!

One of my favorite Marvel films to date releases today on Blu Ray and Digital HD with a ton of bonus content that will have you singing your favorite hits of the 70s and 80s!

In Guardians of the Galaxy 2 we join Star Lord and his band of misfits on a new quest to save the world as well as diving deeper into Peter’s past.

Right from the get-go, the film sets the tone of brazen colors and a fight scene that takes a back seat to the most adorable Baby Groot dance sequence that could have ever existed. Going into the film, I was a bit worried that Marvel would lean too heavily into the marketing potential of Baby Groot but James Gunn had done a service of making him one of the strongest characters without completely abusing the popularity.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is a culmination of everything that makes a film great. A healthy balance of comedy and action with a well written story that may even make you shed a tear or two. We all go to the movies looking to feel something and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 makes that happen on so many levels from joy to sadness.

If you think the fun stopped in the theaters, guess again. The Blu Ray and Digital HD release offers so much more fun than the film itself including the amazing retro-esque Inferno music video which features David Hasselhoff.

Check out a full list of the bonus features below and get your copy today!…or last week if you’re only interested in the Digital version. Continue reading

Disney to Pull Movies From Netflix in 2019

Disney fans were excited to learn last year that as of September 2016, all Disney theatrical features would make their way to Netflix as part of a 2012 deal between the two companies. This included all Disney Animation, Star Wars and Marvel films.

Well, that’s about to change…

This week Disney announced in their shareholder call that in 2019, all Disney movies would be removed from Netflix and that they would be launching their own subscription service.

Disney has yet to state what that would include whether it be just Disney theatrical films or if it would include other properties from the family of companies ranging from Star Wars to Marvel or even ABC, Disney Channel and ESPN programming as well as how far back the service would go.

A similar service, called DisneyLife, has already been tested in the UK.

Netflix has noted that they will still be working with Disney to retain shows like Daredevil.

Fans have had mixed reactions stating they didn’t want to have to add another subscription to their current line-up and other fans seems to love the idea of a one-stop streaming shop of all things Disney.

Either way, it was something the company likely had to do as it was competing with their own in-home distribution business.

What are your thoughts?

Disney Axes Auction Scene from Pirates of the Caribbean Attraction

“We wants the redhead!” is a phrase that not only fans have associated with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction for the past 6 decades but it’s also been a marketing slogan for Disney that graces t-shirts and a variety of other products throughout the parks.

Today Disney has announced that beginning in 2018, as part of a refurbishment to the attraction, the auction scene featuring ride-goers favorite redhead would be altered significantly.

The auctioneers will no longer be telling the pirates to “take a wench for a bride” but will be auctioning goods instead.

This is not the first time that Disney has made changes to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Prior to1997, a section of the dark ride had the pirates chasing the women around in the city only to find in the last scene, the larger woman was chasing the man.

The update made it so that rather than be sexually suggesting, though as a naive and innocent child I just found the scene to be funny, they added food to the hands of the pirates and brooms to the hands of the women.

Overall, fans seem to be pretty mixed on the news on these new updates as traditionalist feel it painted the pirates in a true light and is a product of the era it serves to represent. Other feel that this is a positive movement in the quest for women’s rights.

How do you feel about it?

Changes are expected to happen in 2018 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Beauty and the Beast Digital/Blu Ray Review

Beauty and the Beast fans rejoice! The time has come for you to bring this tale as old as time home with you to watch it over and over again.

One of this year’s most anticipated films is now available for purchase as a digital download or DVD and Blu Ray…and it’s full of amazing bonus content.

Whether you’re a fan of the music or the movie-making magic, Beauty and the Beast has some behind the scenes features that will give you a sneak peek into just how Disney created this modern day masterpiece.

My personal favorite feature is the ability to watch the film with the overture. Not only is this the way the cast saw the film at the premiere but it’s almost as if you’re sitting down to watch a live theatrical performance.

And if that’s not enough, the bonus content includes 9 additional deleted scenes that were not in the original release of the film!

Check out a preview of this special featurette and be sure to grab Beauty and the Beast on digital and Blu Ray in stores now!

Bambi Digital/Blu Ray Review

Though Bambi may have not been my favorite animated feature from an entertainment standpoint, it certainly is one of my favorite Disney flicks from a technical standpoint.

This revolutionary animated film is one of Walt Disney’s earliest achievements due to the sheer effort that went into the production of animating Bambi.

Bambi tells the story of an adorable fawn, of the same name, along with a forest of other lovable critters like Flower and Thumper.

When a series of unfortunate events leaves Bambi alone to fend for himself, some new friends step up to fill a void that Bambi was forced to face,

This month we celebrate 75 years of this classic film with an all new Blu Ray and HD Digital release that’s full of great features that make classic animation nerds like me weak in the knees.

As mentioned earlier, Bambi was an animated masterpiece of its time and the features contained on the Blu Ray show exactly what type of work went into making this film a reality…including behind the scenes segments which reveal exactly what kind of research the animators went through to bring these forest animals to life.

Also, fans are treated to some animated shorts when the purchase the 75th anniversary edition of Bambi but unlike newer features, the Blu Ray and HD Digital versions include an original Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short!

This is a must-have for any classic Disney fan’s collection and is available in stores and online.

See below for a full list of all of the features included on the Blu Ray. Continue reading
