Disney Oscars 2014

It will be a big year for Disney at the 2014 Oscars as the studio will have 8 chances to bring home a statue.

“Frozen” takes the cake with nominations in 2 different categories. This morning, the feature animation received Oscar nods for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song (“Let It Go”).

It will be competing for Best Animated Feature with “Despicable Me 2″, “The Croods” and “The Wind Rises”, which Disney has the American release rights for.

Coming hot off a Golden Globe win, we are hoping “Frozen” can continue the streak and take home Best Animated Feature at the Oscars as well.

“Let It Go” did not take home a Golden Globe as Best Original Song taking a backseat to “Ordinary Love” from the film “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” (which was nominated for an Oscar as well).

Surprisingly, it seems “Saving Mr. Banks” was snubbed in a few categories getting nominated only for Best Original Score by Thomas Newman.

We thought for sure the film would have nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Supporting Role but unfortunately this wasn’t the case granted a strong year for quality films like “Gravity”, “Her” and “American Hustle”.

“The Lone Ranger” and “Iron Man 3″ were both nominated for Best Visual Effectsand will be competing with “Star Trek: Into Darkness” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”.

Lastly, we don’t want to forget about Best Animated Short Film. Disney’s “Get A Horse” has been nominated in this category. For those who have yet to see “Frozen”, “Get A Horse” leads the film with it’s unique combination of vintage style animation and 3D animation.

The Oscars will be airing on ABC Sunday, March 2nd.
