“Girl Meets World” Pilot Review

Girl Meets World Pilot

This past weekend, the “Girl Meets World” pilot debuted on iTunes giving anxious fans an early peek at what the new Disney Channel series is all about.

Fans of the original series, “Boy Meets World” will find a few parallels with the new show but there is no doubt that “Girl Meets World” was developed with a new generation in mind.

Similar to “Boy Meets World”, “Girl Meets World” tells the story of growing up in high school by following Corey and Topanga’s daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and her friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). As in the original series, the pair find themselves contrasted as Riley is the goodie-two-shoes straight-A student and Maya is the non-conforming troublemaker who hints at having problems at home, similar to the relationship of Corey and Shawn.

Though the series is already a comedy, there is some additional comedic relief from the socially awkward student, Farkle (Corey Fogelmanis), who closely parallels Minkus from the original series.

Overall the pilot episode was cute and clever and new fans will have no problem jumping into it. Fans of the original “Boy Meets World” may have grown out of what “Girl Meets World” has to offer in terms of content but they will still be hit with some nostalgia that might make the series worthwhile.

Overall, there are still some issues I had with the acting and the writing as a whole but like many series, my guess is that will be fixed with time.

If you can’t wait until June 27th to start watching “Girl Meets World” on Disney Channel, then head on over to iTunes and download the first episode free!
