Big Hero 6 Baymax

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures join Marvel Comics to bring you the lovable, squeezable, and hilarious inflatable healthcare robot, Baymax, in Walt Disney Picture’s latest animated feature, Big Hero 6.

This review is spoiler free!

Big Hero 6, centered on our hero…Hiro, in a futuristic hybrid city called San Fransokyo, begins with a look into the next generation of scientists.

Hiro Hamada, genius bot-fighter and high school graduate at the age of 13, is persuaded by older brother, Tadashi Hamada, to utilize his technological gifts by inventing something that will change the world. This leads Hiro to invent his Microbot technology which can take the form of anything the user imagines.

We also get the chance to meet several of Tadashi’s friends that work in the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology Lab. These characters include Professor Robert Callaghan, head of the research division of the institute and inventor of nanorobotics technology; Honey Lemon, the quirky and bubbly chemistry whiz; GoGo, the “rough around the edges”, athletic adrenaline junkie; Wasabi, a smart, neurotic neat freak with a cautious personality; and Fred, the laid back, hilarious sign-twirler with a lot to share.

The most notable character of all includes the healthcare companion, Baymax. This chubby inflatable robot, built by Tadashi, steals the entire movie with his humorous charm and aloof artificial intelligence. The entire movie begs for more of the cute nuances from Baymax and his attempt to learn how humans think, feel, and act.

When we discover that someone has stolen Hiro’s microbot technology, this team of bright individuals must use their scientific talents to come together and form a team of superheroes. The group discovers a madman in a Kabuki mask who is using Hiro’s Microbot technology for evil, and are driven to several locations to ascertain his motivations.

The movie does a fantastic job of allowing all of the characters’ traits to pull together for an equal amount of humor and drama. We get to see the difficulties of loss, the strengths of friendship, and the possibilities of hope.

Big Hero 6 is a movie that can be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages and includes the voice talents of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, T.J. Miller, Daniel Henney, and Maya Rudolph.

Big Hero 6 is in theaters now!
